Ondo police arrest 10 over land dispute, interstate robbery syndicate

Ondo State Police have apprehended 10 individuals in connection with a violent land dispute in Akure and a notorious interstate armed robbery ring that operated across Ondo and Lagos States. The arrests were announced by the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, who paraded the suspects in Akure.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the dispute involved Akinsulu Titus and Ajani Abiodun, both of Ayetoro via Kajola, who are parties to an ongoing land matter before the High Court sitting in Ore.

Seven suspects were detained following a deadly confrontation over a land dispute in Kajola, Akure. The clash occurred on Saturday, July 18, 2026, involving parties identified as Akinsulu Titus and Ajani Abiodun, who have an ongoing land case before the High Court in Ore. Both parties reportedly arrived at the disputed farmland with supporters, including individuals alleged to be soldiers, who are currently at large. The disagreement escalated from alleged destruction of palm trees and crops, resulting in injuries to both principal parties.

Police operatives responded to the scene, restored order, and recovered a bag containing two locally made guns, two cutlasses, suspected charms, a container of "Acid," and other dangerous weapons. The land dispute case has been transferred to the Command Surveillance Squad for further investigation.

The disagreement reportedly stemmed from allegations of the destruction of palm trees and other economic crops before it degenerated into a violent confrontation during which both principal parties sustained varying degrees of injuries and their clothing was torn.

In a separate operation, three suspects were arrested for armed robbery: Promise Daniel, Ifeanyi Umahi, and Adaramoye Abayomi. Their arrest on Saturday, July 18, 2026, followed an intelligence-led operation related to an armed robbery reported on June 14, 2026. The suspects were intercepted in a Mercedes-Benz SUV. A search of the vehicle yielded an AK-47 rifle with 18 rounds of ammunition, a Beretta pistol with four rounds, an axe, and an iron cutter. Preliminary investigations indicate the suspects are part of a syndicate on the Command's watchlist for violent robberies across Ondo State. They have provided confessional statements that are aiding the investigation into other fleeing members.
