One Arrested in Viral Jakarta Photobox Phone Theft; Second Suspect Sought

Authorities in Jakarta have apprehended one individual in connection with the theft of a mobile phone from a photobox at Green Pramuka Square Mall. The suspects had previously gained notoriety after their images circulated widely on social media.

According to Kombes Budi Hermanto, Head of the Public Relations Division of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, two individuals were involved in the phone theft. One suspect, identified by the initials YH, has been detained at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Detention Center. The search for the second suspect is ongoing.

The incident was captured by CCTV cameras within the photobooth at the mall. A content creator named Berlin uploaded the footage to social media, alleging that the two women in the video had taken his Samsung Z Flip 7, which he had left behind. Berlin stated that the theft occurred on Monday, May 11, 2026. He further claimed that the suspects not only failed to return his phone but also emptied his digital wallet and mobile banking accounts.

Berlin reported the incident to the Cempaka Putih Police Station on the night of the theft. Following an on-site investigation, police successfully arrested one of the suspects.
