One Dead as GNFS Contains Tanker Fire at Asutuare Junction

A diesel tanker fire at Asutuare Junction in Ghana's Eastern Region was successfully contained and extinguished by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on June 28, 2026. The incident followed a distress call, prompting the deployment of four fire pumps from Somanya, VRA, Akosombo, and Gbetsile. The first responders arrived at 05:30 hours and worked to bring the blaze under control before fully extinguishing it.

The tanker and its diesel cargo were completely destroyed in the fire. Tragically, one individual, identified as the driver, was found burnt to death at the scene. The driver's mate, however, was rescued and transported to Akuse Hospital for medical treatment.

Station Officer II Achisey of the Somanya Fire Station led the firefighting operation. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the relevant authorities. The GNFS has not yet released further details regarding the circumstances that led to the incident.
