One dead as severe storms batter Japan

Heavy rain across parts of Japan has killed a woman in the northeastern city of Iwaki, where her car flooded in an underpass, broadcaster NHK reported on Monday.

The woman died in Fukushima Prefecture as severe weather continued to put residents on alert. The Tokyo metropolitan area also experienced the effects of a typhoon's outer bands.

Authorities have since lifted evacuation advisories for Iwaki and parts of Ibaraki and Kanagawa prefectures. In Hirono, Fukushima, officials also ended an evacuation advisory covering the municipality's 4,665 residents, a spokesperson told dpa.
