One killed, another seriously injured in Lyon suburb shooting

A fatal shooting occurred Friday evening in Décines-Charpieu, a suburb of Lyon, France, leaving one man dead and another critically wounded. The incident took place around 7:30 p.m. in the Sully neighborhood, an area not far from the Groupama Stadium, home to the Olympique Lyonnais football club.

Authorities confirmed the death of one individual at the scene and the severe injury of a second person, who was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The Rhône prefecture dispatched CRS reinforcements to secure the neighborhood following the violence.

Details surrounding the shooting remain unclear, and the judicial police have taken charge of the investigation. Security sources urged caution regarding the potential motives, though local media reports suggest two shooters may have been involved and fled before police arrived. An electric scooter was reportedly used to reach the crime scene.

This shooting follows a series of violent incidents in the same neighborhood. In May, three people died in an arson attack on a residential building, leading to the arrest of three teenagers. Authorities at the time considered drug-related feuds as a serious potential motive for that incident.
