One officer dead, two missing after Indonesian police drug raid turns violent

A violent confrontation during a drug raid in Tumbang Kalemei village, Central Kalimantan, has resulted in the death of one police officer and the disappearance of two others. The incident occurred when personnel from the Katingan Resort Police attempted to apprehend a suspected drug dealer.

Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, Director of Narcotics Crimes at Bareskrim Polri, confirmed that a Bareskrim team will be dispatched to support the Central Kalimantan Regional Police. Their mission includes assisting in the search for the missing officers, securing the area, and thoroughly investigating the drug syndicate responsible for the attack.

The operation began after police received public reports of alleged methamphetamine trafficking in the village. Investigations pointed to an individual with prior drug offense convictions. A team of 12 officers was deployed, with one group attempting to arrest the target at his home while another provided support.

During the arrest, the target was apprehended, but the situation escalated rapidly. Individuals inside the house and nearby residents reportedly attacked the police with machetes. The mob grew in number, allegedly using both sharp weapons and homemade firearms, forcing the police to retreat and seek reinforcements.

Authorities are currently searching for two missing officers, identified as First Inspector Sumaryanto and Second Brigadier Nopandri Ramadhana. The deceased officer has been identified as Second Inspector Yudhie Perdana Putra, who sustained fatal stab wounds. The Bareskrim team's deployment aims to ensure the full investigation and apprehension of those involved in the attack on law enforcement.
