One terrorist killed, 8 others held in ongoing Bannu operation

An intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Pakistan's Bannu district continued for a third day on Sunday, leading to the death of one terrorist and the apprehension of eight individuals. The operation, a collaborative effort between the district police, Elite Force, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), and the army, took place in the village of Grera Shah Jahan. Authorities reported that the slain terrorist was killed while attempting to plant an improvised explosive device (IED). Security forces also recovered an AK-47 rifle, multiple magazines, and a bandolier from his possession.

During the extensive search operations, police detained eight suspicious individuals who have been handed over to the CTD and district police for further investigation. Authorities also seized two motorcycles and a rickshaw from the residence of a wanted terrorist identified as Zargul, also known as "Uncle." The Bannu police have reaffirmed their commitment to continuing joint operations with law enforcement and security agencies to eradicate terrorism, maintain law and order, and protect public lives and property.

This development follows a significant increase in militant violence in the region. On Friday, the military's media wing reported that security forces had eliminated 24 terrorists in Bannu and its surrounding areas within the previous 24 hours. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) attributed a recent "surge" in terrorist attacks against police and suicide bombings in Bannu to "Indian proxy Fitna-al-Khawarij," a term used by the state for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Bannu has experienced repeated security incidents recently, with both civilians and security forces targeted amid the broader rise in violence.
