One Week Left to Establish New Political Organization

Political hopefuls in Lithuania have just over a week to establish a new political organization before the deadline of September 8th. This timeframe is crucial for any new entities aiming to participate in the upcoming 2027 municipal council and mayoral elections.

The establishment and registration process for political parties and committees are subject to strict deadlines. According to regulations, these organizations must be officially founded no later than 180 days prior to the election day. This ensures ample time for verification and inclusion in the electoral process.

Since 2022, the framework for establishing political committees has evolved. They are now treated as registered organizations and must undergo a formal registration process within the Register of Legal Entities. Only upon successful registration is a committee officially considered founded and eligible to operate within the political landscape.
