Only One Ecuadorian Player Ranks Among Top 100 World Cup Attackers

In the FIFA World Cup 2026 rankings, only one Ecuadorian player, Nilson Angulo, secured a spot among the top 100 attackers. Angulo was positioned at 81st in the attack category, receiving scores of 5.20 for attack, 5.63 for creativity, and 4.51 for defense.

The FIFA ranking system, implemented for the 2026 World Cup, individually assesses players based on match data. Field players are evaluated in attack, creativity, and defense, while goalkeepers are assessed on ball possession and shot-stopping. Players must participate for at least 20 minutes to receive a rating, with classifications updated after each match.

Other Ecuadorian players also appeared in the rankings, though lower down: Pedro Vite at 249th, Willian Pacho at 292nd, and Alan Franco at 317th in the attack category. In goalkeeping defense, Hernán Galíndez ranked 16th, earning a score of 5.62 in that area and 4.10 in ball possession.

The top 10 attackers included prominent names like Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, and Lionel Messi. The methodology for the rankings was developed by FIFA's Performance Insights team, led by Arsène Wenger.
