Only One Ohtani Card Sells for Over $14.3 Billion, Setting Third-Highest Record

A baseball card featuring Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani has fetched an astronomical price, selling for over $10 million (approximately 14.3 billion won). The card is unique, being the only one of its kind in existence.

The "2026 Topps Chrome Baseball" card was discovered by a collector in Florida who opened a box at a sports card shop. This particular card contains two gold patches from the uniforms Ohtani wore during significant games. One patch is from the uniform he wore when he hit two home runs in an away game against the Baltimore Orioles on September 8, 2025. The other patch is from a home game on April 13 of this year, where he also hit a home run.

Matthew Allen, a collector of high-value sports cards, confirmed on his social media that he paid more than $10 million for the card. The inclusion of gold logo patches is significant, as players who win MVP, Cy Young, and Rookie of the Year awards in a season typically use gold logo patches the following year.

If the sale indeed exceeded $10 million, it ranks as the third most expensive sports card ever sold. The record for the highest price is held by a Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant dual logoman autograph card from the 2007-2008 NBA season, which sold for $12.932 million in August last year. Following that is a 1952 Topps card of MLB legend Mickey Mantle, which sold for $12.6 million in August 2022.
