Only regime change prevents Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, former Israel Navy commander says

Regime change in Iran is the sole path to preventing the country from obtaining nuclear weapons, according to V.-Adm. (ret.) Eliezer "Chaney" Marom, a former commander of the Israeli Navy. Marom told 103FM that Iran's motivation to develop nuclear arms has intensified following the recent war, despite significant disruptions to its program.

Producing a nuclear bomb is a complex and difficult undertaking. The Iranians were very close when the war began, and fortunately, we disrupted it significantly.

Marom asserted that intelligence assessments from Israeli, American, and international agencies indicate Iran was mere weeks away from producing a nuclear weapon before the conflict began. He warned against complacency, emphasizing that Iran's leadership likely concluded that possessing nuclear weapons would have drastically altered the war's outcome. "Therefore, their motivation is through the roof," he stated, reiterating that only a change in government could halt their nuclear ambitions.

They were weeks away from a nuclear weapon, unequivocally. I am not the only one saying this. All the intelligence agencies, both Israeli and American, are saying it clearly, including the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Addressing concerns about Iran's nuclear facilities, Marom discussed reports of centrifuges being transferred to a fortified site known as Pickaxe Mountain. This location, excavated deep underground within granite, is considered exceptionally difficult to penetrate, potentially beyond the capability of current US weaponry. While acknowledging the challenge of attacking such a facility, Marom indicated that other factors concerning him more than the site's defenses.

The Iranians have drawn one clear conclusion from this entire war: ‘Had we possessed nuclear weapons, everything would have looked different.’ Therefore, their motivation is through the roof. There is only one way to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, and that is regime change.
