Ontario Man Sentenced to 20 Years in U.S. for Leading Cross-Border Drug Ring

Guramrit Sidhu, an individual from Brampton, Ontario, has received a 20-year prison sentence in the United States for his role in orchestrating a significant drug-trafficking operation. The sentencing follows his guilty plea earlier this year to charges related to leading a drug ring that spanned the border between Canada and the U.S.

The operation, which ran from September 2020 to February 2023, was responsible for moving substantial amounts of narcotics. According to a California court, between September and October 2022 alone, the ring trafficked over 500 kilograms of methamphetamine and nearly 350 kilograms of cocaine from the U.S. into Canada. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California estimated the value of these drug shipments to be as high as US$17 million.

Sidhu was apprehended and subsequently extradited to the United States in October 2024 to face the charges. His conviction and sentencing mark a significant outcome in the ongoing efforts to dismantle transnational criminal organizations. He is the eighth individual connected to this drug ring to plead guilty, indicating a broader law enforcement success in targeting the network's members.
