Onyedika relishes Frankfurt challenge

Nigerian international Raphael Onyedika is embarking on a new chapter in his career after completing a significant transfer to German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt. The 25-year-old midfielder has signed a five-year contract, keeping him at the club until June 2031, and becomes the sixth Nigerian player to represent the historic German club.

Onyedika joins Frankfurt from Club Brugge, where he was a key player for the Belgian champions. His move follows in the footsteps of Nigerian football legend Austin Okocha, who also played for Eintracht Frankfurt. Frankfurt's board member for sport, Markus Krösche, highlighted Onyedika's physicality, strategic acumen, and remarkable consistency as key factors in the club's pursuit. Krösche also noted Onyedika's valuable international experience, including his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations, and believes the midfielder, at 25, possesses significant potential and is a crucial addition to the squad's structure.

During his time with Club Brugge, Onyedika amassed an impressive collection of trophies, including two Belgian league titles, the Belgian Cup, and the Belgian Super Cup. He also won the Danish Cup with FC Midtjylland earlier in his career. With 268 senior club appearances and 24 UEFA Champions League outings, Onyedika brings a wealth of experience and proven durability to the Bundesliga. He is expected to make his unofficial debut this weekend.
