Opaz chairman meets Qatar’s commerce and industry minister

Oman and Qatar discussed expanding economic cooperation during a meeting in Muscat between Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, and Sheikh Faisal bin Thani Al Thani, Qatar’s minister of commerce and industry and chairman of the Qatar Free Zones Authority.

The talks focused on special economic zones, free zones and industrial cities. The two sides examined opportunities for new partnerships, industrial clusters and stronger integration across value chains. They also discussed a joint investment and opportunities program, service to Qatari and regional markets, supply-chain resilience, and the advantages offered by land links, ports and logistics services.

Oman reviewed the investment environment in the zones overseen by Opaz, along with incentives, infrastructure and services available to investors. Areas highlighted included manufacturing linked to major projects, silica, fisheries, food production and cold-chain operations. The discussion also covered an aluminium, wire and metallurgical industries cluster at the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, and mining-industrial integration in the Wilayat of Shalim.

The officials agreed on the importance of continued coordination and expertise-sharing. They also called for stronger communication among government bodies and private-sector institutions in both countries to help develop joint investments in the coming period.
