Open Agenda for Free Castrations in Maldonado in July 2026: Dates, Neighborhoods, and Requirements

The Intendencia de Maldonado has released its schedule for free dog and cat spay and neuter campaigns throughout July 2026. These services aim to control the pet population and promote animal welfare in the region.

Canine sterilization services will be available in Maldonado, San Carlos, Garzón, and Piriápolis. Specific dates and locations have been designated for each area, including neighborhoods like Eucaliptos, Balneario Buenos Aires, Cerro Pelado, and San Antonio II. For cats, sterilization will occur on more specific dates, with fewer available days.

To access these free services, pet owners must pre-register and present valid identification and a copy of their ID, along with a responsible owner's email address. The Intendencia emphasizes that animals must be at least six months old for the procedure. For females who have recently given birth, the surgery can be performed two months after delivery.

Preparation guidelines include fasting the pet for 12 hours prior to the appointment, ensuring they have no food or water. Pets should also be brought with a collar and leash. For cats, owners are advised to bring a mesh bag, such as one used for potatoes or onions, for safe transport. A blanket is recommended to keep the animal warm post-surgery.
