Open championship for Paralympic sport boccia starts in Osh

The city of Osh in Kyrgyzstan has become the venue for an open championship dedicated to boccia, a Paralympic sport. The competition, scheduled to run from July 24 to July 27, brings together athletes to showcase their skills in this unique discipline.

Participants will compete across several categories, including BC1, BC2, BC3, and BC4, highlighting the sport's adaptability for various levels of physical ability. The event is organized by the Committee for Physical Culture and Sports of Osh city, with support from the mayor's office.

Boccia itself is a tactical ball game focused on accuracy, specifically developed for individuals with severe physical disabilities, most notably cerebral palsy and other motor system impairments. Its roots trace back to ancient Greek and Roman games, sharing commonalities with bowling but distinguished as a dedicated Paralympic discipline utilizing soft leather balls.
