Opera: Tooth Fairy and Sex Robot Now Seen on National Opera Stage

The Finnish National Opera is currently presenting "The Request," a new short opera that brings together young artists to explore unconventional themes. The production features a cast including soprano Olga Heikkilä, mezzo-soprano Tuula Paavola, tenor Jasper Leppänen, and soprano Emilia Vesalainen-Pellas.

The opera's narrative appears to delve into themes of desire and artificial companionship. A tenor character is depicted as suffering from unfulfilled longing, while the stage is set for the appearance of two robots. These are described as a "partnership robot" and a "sex slave" robot, with the latter noted for its customizability to meet specific user desires.

One of the robots delivers a particularly striking line, singing about the removable nature of its "genitals" and their suitability for cleaning in a dishwasher. This element highlights the opera's exploration of technology, intimacy, and the blurring lines between human and artificial interaction within its artistic framework.
