Operators of illegal adult internet cafes, including one with an electronic ankle monitor, booked in South Korea

Authorities in Ulsan, South Korea, have booked seven individuals for operating illegal adult internet cafes, violating the Game Industry Promotion Act.

The crackdown, conducted by the Ulsan Metropolitan Police Agency in collaboration with the Game Rating and Administration Committee, targeted 76 establishments. The seven operators are accused of facilitating illegal currency exchange and offering games that had not undergone proper rating procedures.

Notably, one of the arrested operators was found to be managing an internet cafe while wearing an electronic ankle monitor, typically used for monitoring individuals under probation or with criminal records. Police have notified the probation office about this violation and are reviewing potential charges under laws related to electronic tagging.

The investigation aims to curb illegal gambling and gaming activities within these establishments, ensuring compliance with regulations designed to protect users and maintain fair competition within the gaming industry.
