OPHK airstrikes neutralise scores of terrorists in Borno

The Nigerian military's Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), has conducted a series of successful intelligence-led airstrikes against terrorist strongholds in Borno State. The operations, carried out between the night of August 21 and the early hours of August 22, 2026, reportedly resulted in the neutralization of scores of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists.

Following appropriate operational procedures and authorisation, a precision strike was conducted against the identified target. Subsequent Battle Damage Assessment indicated significant effects on the terrorist concentration, with about 16 terrorists neutralised in two precision strikes.

These precision strikes were executed following credible intelligence and confirmed via Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions that identified specific terrorist movements and concentrations. Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Media Information Officer for OPHK Headquarters, stated that the operations effectively degraded identified targets and thwarted attempts by terrorists to regroup and operate freely.

In one significant engagement near the Aduwa axis in Monguno Local Government Area, an armed reconnaissance platform detected and tracked suspected terrorists. After identifying a larger concentration within a settlement, a precision strike was authorized, neutralizing approximately 16 terrorists. Surveillance continued, revealing another group attempting to regroup, which was subsequently engaged, eliminating about 10 more terrorists.

A further precision engagement was conducted, with subsequent assessment indicating that the identified group of about 10 terrorists had also been successfully engaged.

Similar operations were conducted around Buratai in Biu Local Government Area, where another OPHK air platform successfully targeted a group of about 10 terrorists. These actions highlight the growing effectiveness of OPHK's integrated ISR capabilities in detecting and disrupting terrorist activities before they can pose a threat to troops or vulnerable communities. The military asserts that terrorists can no longer rely on concealment or remote locations to evade detection, emphasizing the pressure these strikes place on their logistics and command structures.
