OPP officer charged with assault after North York traffic stop

An Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer is facing charges of assault and assault with a weapon following an investigation into a traffic stop that occurred earlier this year in North York. The incident took place on January 2, when the officer, driving an unmarked cruiser, stopped a vehicle on Yonge Street.

According to a police news release, the officer discharged a conducted energy weapon during the stop. The driver of the vehicle was arrested on charges related to the Highway Traffic Act and subsequently taken to a hospital for assessment.

The OPP's Professional Standards Unit conducted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the arrest. As a result, Kevin Noh, a 35-year-old provincial constable with nine years of service, has been charged.

Noh is currently assigned to the OPP Highway Safety Division and has been placed on administrative duties pending the legal process. He is scheduled to appear in an Ontario court in Toronto on October 2.
