Opposition delegation led by Dinorah Figuera will arrive in Venezuela today to start dialogue

An opposition delegation, headed by Dinorah Figuera, is scheduled to arrive in Venezuela on Wednesday afternoon to commence crucial dialogue aimed at the nation's democratic transition. The group, representing the National Assembly elected in 2015, will land at Arturo Michelena International Airport in Valencia, Carabobo state.

The initial meeting, planned for Thursday, will prioritize addressing the consequences of the double earthquake that struck on June 24. This negotiation process, facilitated by the United States, will proceed without the direct involvement of prominent opposition leaders María Corina Machado and Edmundo González Urrutia. Both have stated they will not obstruct the talks and will evaluate progress based on concrete outcomes.

The opposition delegation, led by Dinorah Figuera, will arrive this afternoon via Valencia, around 3 p.m. Tomorrow, the meetings begin with addressing the consequences of the seismic doublet as the first point.

Figuera described the initiation of this process as the beginning of a "dialogue for the democratic transition of Venezuela and the care of victims and those affected by the double earthquake of June 24, 2026." She also expressed gratitude for the support from the United States and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in this new phase of discussions.

The agenda is structured around three main axes: aid for earthquake victims, strengthening democracy, and ensuring political rights and guarantees. The composition of both the governmental and opposition delegations has been announced, with Jorge Rodríguez leading the government's team and Figuera heading the opposition's contingent. The opposition delegation includes figures such as Marco Aurelio Quiñones, Ramón López, and Jorge Millán.
