Opposition leader Omar González returns to Venezuela after over a year in exile

Venezuelan opposition leader Omar González has announced his return to Venezuela, ending over a year of exile. González, who had been residing at the Argentine Embassy in Caracas, confirmed his departure in a social media post, expressing deep emotion and hope for his homeland.

González spent more than 400 days at the Argentine Embassy, alongside other members of María Corina Machado's team. He was eventually evacuated in a covert operation known as "Operación Guacamaya" in mid-2025. Since then, he has been living abroad, awaiting the opportunity to return and continue his political activities.

His return comes at a critical juncture for Venezuela's opposition movement. González stated his intention to reintegrate into the ongoing fight for freedom and democracy, emphasizing that he returns "stronger than ever." He aims to support the Venezuelan people as they anticipate the arrival of María Corina Machado, whom he recognizes as the country's leader.

González plans to arrive at Barcelona airport in Anzoátegui state, bypassing the main international airport in Maiquetía due to seismic activity. His return signifies a renewed commitment to the opposition's cause, aiming to rally support and continue advocating for democratic change within Venezuela.
