Opposition: Vučić's police statement hypocritical, his regime humiliated officers

Serbia's opposition party SRCE has labeled President Aleksandar Vučić's recent statement on police dignity as "extremely hypocritical." The party argues that Vučić and his administration have inflicted the most humiliation upon Serbian police officers.

SRCE cited the recent arrest of Veselin Milić, the head of the Belgrade police, and a former security advisor to Vučić, as evidence of corruption within the police force. The party contends that the regime has allowed the boundaries between police structures and organized criminal groups to dissolve over the past decade.

This alleged blurring of lines, SRCE claims, leaves citizens feeling insecure, uncertain whether the police protect them from criminals or shield badge-wearing individuals involved with drug cartels. The party pointed to ongoing gang clashes in Belgrade and other Serbian cities as proof of this insecurity.

SRCE stated that it is unacceptable for the police uniform to be tarnished by assaulting citizens to maintain a dictator's power. The party vowed that after a regime change, the police would be thoroughly cleansed of ruling party cadres and criminal associates. They promised to restore dignity by enabling officers to arrest criminals, not peaceful protesters, and to transform the police back into a service for citizens, not a shield for those who have turned the state into their private enterprise.
