Orange Alert Issued for Yapacaní as Rivers Swell, Threatening Floods and Crops

Yapacaní, Bolivia, is under an orange alert as several rivers, including the Yapacaní River, have experienced significant rises, threatening further flooding. The Yapacaní River reached a level of 3.60 meters, leading to overflows and inundations in various communities within the municipality.

Residents in affected areas, such as Central Yapacaní, are monitoring the continuously rising water levels. The situation is particularly concerning in Central Los Pozos, where numerous farmers have reported substantial losses to their soybean crops. One producer expressed deep worry, stating, "At this rate, I will stop planting," after losing over 50 hectares of soybeans.

Authorities are awaiting a decrease in water levels to assess and quantify the full extent of the damage. They remain on alert and responsive to emergency calls from the population. Meanwhile, the Ichilo River has also risen to 10.32 meters, posing a risk to the TCO Yuracaré Mojeño indigenous territory. The local agricultural sector is expressing significant concern over the repeated crop damage caused by these floods.
