Orange weather alert issued as temperatures reach 35°C in parts of Croatia

Croatia is under an orange heat warning as temperatures in the far south are forecast to climb as high as 35°C. The warning is the second-highest of the country’s three alert levels and reflects the health risk posed by the heat.

Friday will bring mostly sunny conditions across the country. Central and eastern areas could see more cloud and a little rain, especially overnight and in the morning. The highest temperatures will range from about 30°C to 35°C.

The eastern interior will reach about 32°C, while central Croatia will see afternoon temperatures between 31°C and 33°C. Western Croatia will remain sunny, with highs ranging from 28°C in higher ground to 33°C on the northern Adriatic. Temperatures along the coast will start the day between 19°C and 24°C.

Dalmatia will also be sunny, with some cloud developing inland. The southernmost areas will remain the hottest, with morning temperatures of 22°C to 27°C and daytime highs of 32°C to 35°C. Winds will vary by region, including the bura, southwesterly and northwesterly winds, with seas mostly calm to moderately rough.

The outlook calls for mostly sunny conditions inland over the next three days, with Saturday and Monday remaining hot. Cloud and occasional rain, possibly with thunderstorms, may pass through central and eastern Croatia from late Saturday into early Sunday. A northerly wind will bring fresher air and lower temperatures on Sunday. The coast is expected to stay sunny and hot, with little change in temperatures.
