Orphaned Children Need More Than Aid, Including Education and Continued Support

Material assistance alone cannot meet the needs of orphaned children, Erlazet Charity said at an event in Jakarta. Education, character development and continued mentoring are also needed to help children build confidence and face future challenges.

The charity held the program at its central secretariat on Sunday for 50 children under its care. The event marked the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s independence and Maulid Nabi Muhammad, and combined educational, religious and social activities with the distribution of aid.

We want the orphaned children under our care not only to experience the festivities of independence and the blessings of Maulid Nabi, but also to feel loved, accompanied and fully supported in their learning process. The character education we provide is rooted in noble conduct and mental resilience.

Shofina Fauzani, the event coordinator and Erlazet Charity’s education manager, said the organization wanted the children to feel supported in their learning as well as included in the celebrations. “We want the orphaned children under our care not only to experience the festivities of independence and the blessings of Maulid Nabi, but also to feel loved, accompanied and fully supported in their learning process,” she said.

Celebrating the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s independence is not merely about remembering the struggles of the past. It is also a tangible expression of our shared commitment to preparing the best, smartest and most resilient generation for the future.

She said the charity’s character education program draws on noble conduct and mental resilience. Rafi Sina Almadani, the charity’s deputy chair, said support for young people should include education and character formation. He described the Independence Day anniversary as a reminder to prepare a capable and resilient younger generation.

The program included competitions and a motivational religious talk focused on honesty, trustworthiness and perseverance. Rafi said the example of Prophet Muhammad could provide a moral foundation as children develop their attitudes and respond to challenges. The event ended with a joint prayer and aid packages for every child who attended.
