Orthopedic Surgeon Gregor Kavčič and Novo Mesto Hospital Reach Out-of-Court Settlement

Orthopedic surgeon Gregor Kavčič and the Novo Mesto General Hospital have resolved their labor dispute concerning the termination of his employment contract through a legally binding court settlement. Both parties agreed that continuing the legal proceedings was not in their best interest and that an amicable resolution was the most suitable way to conclude the matter.

As part of the settlement, Kavčič withdrew his lawsuit against the hospital, explaining that he no longer seeks to return to regular employment there. The hospital, in turn, waived any potential claims against him stemming from his past work. The agreement also leaves the door open for future collaboration between Kavčič and the hospital, provided it is arranged through a civil law contract.

Neither party will face additional financial obligations as a result of the settlement, and each will bear their own legal costs incurred during the proceedings. The agreement includes a commitment from both sides to maintain a respectful and professional relationship moving forward, including in their communications with the media and the public.

Kavčič emphasized that his decision to settle was driven by his belief that it is possible to step back, preserve dignity, and find a way forward even after significant disagreements. "I want to dedicate my time and energy, which I have recently spent on this dispute, back to what brought me into medicine: helping people and patients in the operating room, where I belong," he stated. Kavčič was dismissed from the hospital following accusations that he directed patients from the hospital waiting list to a private concessioner for operations.
