Oscar-winning musician Glen Hansard dies in motorcycle crash

Glen Hansard, the Oscar-winning musician and composer, has died at the age of 56 following a motorcycle accident in Dublin on Wednesday. His passing was confirmed by The Irish Times and reported by Dagens Nyheter.

Hansard began his career as a street musician in the late 1980s. He gained international recognition as part of the duo Swell Season with Czech musician Markéta Irglová. The film "Once" was later adapted into a successful Broadway musical. A documentary film, "The Swell Season," released in 2011, chronicled the duo's intense touring life after their success. While the duo eventually split, they have reunited for occasional performances.

Hansard recently released his sixth solo album, "Transmissions east (Vol. 1)" and "Transmissions west (Vol. 2)." He was scheduled to perform at Nalen in Stockholm on October 1 as part of a European tour. His agency released a statement expressing heartbreak over his loss, noting that his family is deeply shocked and devastated.
