Osh authorities enhance fight against air pollution

Authorities in Osh, Kyrgyzstan's second-largest city, are stepping up measures to improve air quality and combat pollution. The issue was a central topic at a recent meeting of an interdepartmental working group dedicated to reducing pollution levels.

The meeting, chaired by Vice Mayor Ernis Toltoev and attended by representatives from various government bodies and municipal services, reviewed the implementation of government directives and the action plan for enhancing the city's air quality. Toltoev emphasized that the state of the atmosphere directly impacts residents' health, urging all responsible departments to intensify their collaborative efforts.

Following the discussions, relevant services were instructed to bolster their work across several key areas. These include ensuring industrial enterprises and energy facilities adhere to environmental regulations, gradually shifting public transportation to use environmentally friendly fuels, cracking down on illegal dumping sites, expanding green areas within the city, and raising public environmental awareness.

Officials were also tasked with ensuring the timely execution of all measures outlined in the approved plan. While air pollution has traditionally been a more acute problem in the capital, Bishkek, authorities in Osh have increasingly focused on the city's environmental situation in recent years. Osh is already implementing projects aimed at modernizing public transport, increasing greenery, and reducing harmful emissions.
