Osh Mayor's Office Owes Construction Companies 3 Billion Soms: Minister Nurdin Oruнтаев

The Osh mayor's office faces a significant debt of around 3 billion Kyrgyz soms owed to private contractors for construction projects, according to Nurdin Oruнтаев, the Minister of Construction, Architecture, and Housing and Communal Services.

The total debt is about 3 billion soms. There are more than 100 facilities in total. Of these, 24 of the largest have been transferred to the Ministry of Construction. Work on these facilities continues.

Oruнтаев confirmed the debt amount during a "Open Cabinet" project session, noting that over 100 construction sites are involved. He detailed that 24 of the largest projects, including a major bridge currently under construction in Osh, have been transferred to the Ministry of Construction. Work on these sites continues, with partial financing of 500 million soms provided from the presidential fund to gradually settle the outstanding payments.

The largest of them is the large bridge under construction in Osh. Supports have now been erected, and work has begun on the upper part. Financing is allocated in stages.

The remaining 75 smaller projects are being managed and completed by the Osh municipality, funded by the national and local budgets. The minister's statement comes amid public discussion about the city's financial obligations, particularly after the resignation of former Osh mayor Zheenbek Toktorbaev. During his tenure, media reports circulated claims of a 12 billion som debt, which Toktorbaev refuted, stating the actual debt was closer to 2.3 billion soms and was being systematically paid down.
