Osimhen drops to 5th in Africans MVP ranking

Victor Osimhen, a prominent Super Eagles striker, has seen his valuation drop to fifth among Africa's most valuable footballers, according to Transfermarkt data. He previously held the top spot in 2023 and has since slipped to second and then third before this year's Africa Cup of Nations.

Osimhen, currently valued at €75 million, now trails Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande (€90 million), Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi (€80 million), Manchester City winger Antoine Semenyo (€80 million), and Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi (€80 million). He shares his current valuation with Manchester United's Bryan Mbeumo, who rounds out the top six.

This decline in ranking occurs despite Osimhen's impressive performance at the start of the 2026/27 season with Turkish champions Galatasaray. He has netted four goals and provided one assist in just two games, continuing the form that has made him a highly sought-after player in Europe. Osimhen recently secured third place on Galatasaray's all-time foreign goalscorers list.

Several clubs remain interested in Osimhen, though no transfer has materialized yet. Arsenal is cited as the most probable destination, with Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal also monitoring his situation. Globally, Osimhen is ranked as the 20th most valuable forward, and eighth among out-and-out center forwards, behind players like Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe. He remains the most valuable Nigerian footballer and the top player in the Turkish Super Lig, having scored 63 goals in 76 appearances for Galatasaray since his 2023 move from Napoli.
