Osinbajo unveils two projects in Bayelsa

The commissioning of the Agbura–Oxbow Lake Road and the Oporoma Referral Hospital in Bayelsa State marks a significant milestone in the state's infrastructural development, with former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo gracing the occasion to inaugurate these vital projects. His presence underscored the importance of these developments, which Governor Douye Diri has championed as "life-transforming."

Just as His Excellency has said, I was here about four years ago to do the groundbreaking for the Angiama–Oporoma bridge. We travelled through the forest, and when he said there was going to be a bridge here, I seriously had my doubts because it was just all forests that we saw that day. We were driving and driving and driving, what seemed to be an endless road.

During the inauguration of the Agbura–Oxbow Lake Road, Osinbajo lauded Governor Diri's commitment, recalling his own visit years prior to flag off the Angiama–Oporoma Bridge. He expressed initial doubts about the feasibility of bridging the challenging terrain but acknowledged the governor's fulfillment of his promise. Osinbajo highlighted the road's strategic importance, noting its role in connecting not only local communities but also key government installations like the NCDMB Towers, Federal Secretariat, and CBN headquarters.

But we thank God that not only has he proved to be a man of his word, that bridge stands there today, and just as has been said, I will have the pleasure of confirming that the bridge is there.

Governor Diri, in his remarks, recounted the initial challenges of the road project, emphasizing that its construction provided employment for numerous young people from neighboring communities. He pointed out that the ease of transportation facilitated by these projects opens up new economic avenues for riverine communities along the Yenagoa–Oporoma–Ukubie road. The inauguration also served as a reminder of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's recent visit to Bayelsa to inaugurate the bridge, a trip Osinbajo had intended to join.

So it has very important historic connotations as well. In addition to that, it connects several government facilities, including the NCDMB Towers, the Federal Secretariat, and the CBN headquarters here in Bayelsa State.
