Osun 2026: Large Turnout in Ikire As Voters Await Accreditation

Ikire, the hometown of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, witnessed a significant voter turnout for the Osun governorship election on Saturday. Residents began arriving at polling units as early as 7 a.m., eager to participate in the democratic process. They checked the registers pasted on walls to confirm their names ahead of accreditation.

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials were already on-site, having set up the polling units before the official start time. Security was visible, with unarmed police officers at the centers and armed personnel, soldiers, and patrol vehicles deployed strategically throughout the town. This ensured a secure environment for the election.

Despite the election activities, life continued in Ikire. Vehicular movement was observed along the Ife-Ibadan Road, which passes through the town. Motorcycles and cars navigated the streets, and some shops remained open for business. The overall atmosphere was peaceful, allowing residents to go about their activities while participating in the election.
