Osun 2026: Thugs Shoot APC Member in Osogbo

Political violence has flared in Osun state, Nigeria, as suspected thugs shot a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osogbo on Saturday. The victim, Taofeek Mustapha, was reportedly targeted and shot in the leg.

Witnesses described the attackers arriving in an unmarked vehicle and firing shots indiscriminately. Mustapha stated he was pursued and shot because he was wearing an APC candidate's cap. This incident underscores the volatile atmosphere in the state as the August 15 governorship election nears.

We all scampered for safety to avoid stray bullets, and we suddenly heard someone crying for help but we didn’t look back at the moment.

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed an investigation is underway. In a separate development, police announced the rescue of two individuals who had been kidnapped, reportedly by thugs associated with the APC.

In response to the escalating violence, Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu has directed a comprehensive security operation. This includes raids on criminal hideouts and a "show of strength" to deter potential troublemakers. Disu emphasized that criminals would not be allowed to disrupt the election and warned politicians against harboring them.
