Osun Election: Adeleke declares Friday work-free, urges workers to vote

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has declared Friday, August 14, a non-working day for public servants to ensure their full participation in the state's governorship election scheduled for Saturday.

The directive, issued via a circular from the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, applies to all categories of workers except those in emergency and essential services. The aim is to provide ample time for employees to travel if necessary and make adequate preparations to exercise their voting rights.

The time for action has come. As formal workers at state establishments, I task you to mobilise informal workers, artisans and professional bodies. We must remain strong in defence of our constitutional rights to vote and be voted for.

In a pre-election message, Governor Adeleke called on workers to mobilize their relatives, friends, informal workers, artisans, and professional groups to vote massively. He commended the labor movement for its support during his tenure, describing the relationship between his administration and workers as mutually beneficial.

Adeleke urged state workers to actively defend their constitutional rights to vote and be voted for. He implored them to protect the achievements of his administration over the past three and a half years, stating, "Ours is a workers-friendly government which has delivered across board to labour and Osun people. We cannot and must not allow a return to dark days."
