Osun election: APC’s founding chair, Bisi Akande wins polling unit

Bisi Akande, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics and a founding chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has secured a victory at his polling unit in the Osun governorship election. Akande, who cast his vote at Polling Unit 12, Ward 4, in the Atogbade area of Ila-Orangun, saw the APC's candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, win decisively. Oyebamiji garnered 181 votes, surpassing the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, who received 121 votes. Akande's political career spans decades. He served as the governor of Osun State from 1999 to 2003 under the Alliance for Democracy (AD). Following his gubernatorial term, he held leadership positions within the AD, the Action Congress (AC), and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) for eleven years, from 2003 to 2014. His influence continued as he became the founding interim national chairman of the APC after its formation.
