Osun election: Davido backs uncle, Governor Adeleke, amid opposition jabs

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has publicly declared his support for his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, as the state approaches its governorship election. Davido shared photos of himself with the governor on his X account, expressing strong optimism about the upcoming political contest with the hashtag "#aadeleke_01 God got us."

Davido's show of support comes amid a charged political atmosphere in Osun State, marked by intense exchanges between major political figures vying for the governorship seat. Earlier, the singer had urged Osun residents to reject violence and intimidation during the election, calling for a peaceful process where voters could freely choose their preferred candidate.

However, political opponents have targeted Governor Adeleke. Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma suggested the electorate had lost confidence in Adeleke, advising Davido to prepare his uncle for post-office life and consider hiring him as a dancer. Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo also mocked the governor's penchant for dancing, urging voters to accept money from opponents but vote for the APC. Despite these jabs, Governor Adeleke, seeking a second term, stated the election is an opportunity to send a message to the APC about respecting voters. His administration also faces financial scrutiny, with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission placing a restriction on the state's statutory allocation account shortly before the election.
