Osun Election: Oyebamiji flags off 500 solar street lights in Iwo

Bola Oyebamiji, an All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Osun State governorship election, has initiated a rural electrification project. The "Light Up Osun" initiative involves the distribution of 500 solar-powered street lights, beginning in Iwo. Oyebamiji's wife, Dr. Sekinat Oyebamiji, represented him at the project's launch, stating its aims to enhance security, stimulate economic activity, and provide illumination to rural communities.

She emphasized that the project demonstrates Oyebamiji's dedication to grassroots development and improving the quality of life for residents in rural areas. Iwo was chosen as the pilot location, with plans to expand the project to other towns and communities across Osun State. The Head of Media and Publicity Committee for the APC Campaign Council, Remi Omowaiye, described the initiative as the first phase of a larger rural electrification program.

Omowaiye explained that solar street lights and poles have been procured for installation in villages and rural communities. He noted that the project aligns with Oyebamiji's strategy to support the implementation of the Electricity Act in Osun State and promote better access to sustainable electricity. The project is entirely funded by Oyebamiji, who has directed that installations begin immediately.

This is a pilot scheme targeted at rural areas. In the first phase, we are installing about 500 solar lights as part of our plan for the implementation of the Electricity Act and to improve electricity access across the state.
