Osun Election: Senator Fadeyi Quits APC, Returns to PDP

Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, representing Osun Central Senatorial District, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Fadeyi was among federal lawmakers who defected from the PDP to the APC but failed to secure the party's senatorial ticket for the 2027 election.

The APC ticket for Osun Central was awarded to Rasheed Adegoke (SAN), a decision that prompted protests from some of Fadeyi’s supporters. They demanded the ticket be returned to the incumbent senator. Notably, other former PDP lawmakers who joined the APC, including Senator Francis Fadahunsi and members of the House of Representatives, Wole Oke, Taofeek Ajilesoro, and Sanya Omirin, successfully obtained return tickets.

I wish to state unequivocally that I remain one hundred per cent committed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and supportive of the Renewed Hope Agenda. My decision is not in opposition to the President, his administration or his vision for Nigeria.

In his resignation letter, Fadeyi stated his decision stemmed from the APC's alleged failure to uphold an agreement that he would be the consensus candidate for the Osun Central senatorial seat. He expressed his belief that assurances of receiving the ticket would be honored and that the party would adhere to principles of fairness and internal democracy. The senator alleged that the candidate selection process deviated from the agreed consensus arrangement and lacked transparency, eroding his confidence in the Osun State APC leadership.

Despite his departure from the APC, Fadeyi emphasized his unwavering commitment to President Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda. He clarified that his decision was not a rejection of the President or his administration's vision for Nigeria. Fadeyi stated his actions were guided by a need to uphold democratic principles and protect the political mandate given to him by the constituents of the Osun Central Senatorial District.
