Osun Election: Uzodimma tells Davido to prepare to employ his uncle

Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has become embroiled in the Osun State governorship election campaign, urging an unnamed politician to ensure a free and fair contest.

It is rather pedestrian for Davido to direct such an appeal to the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum simply because his wife is from Imo State. Instead, his appeal should be directed to the people of Osun State, who will ultimately decide the election’s outcome through their votes.

Davido, who leads the youth campaign mobilization team for the incumbent Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, stated he had heard rumors of a politician from Imo State planning to interfere. He alleged this politician intended to use the election as a political battleground and urged them to promote peace instead.

Responding through his media aide, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who chairs the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Campaign Council for the election, dismissed Davido's appeal. Uzodimma stated that Davido should direct his message to the Osun electorate, not the chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum. He asserted that the APC consistently preaches peace and is committed to a credible election.

The reality is that Governor Ademola Adeleke has, in the opinion of many, failed woefully in the discharge of his responsibilities. This is why many Osun voters are determined to vote him out in the August 15, 2026, governorship election.

Uzodimma further claimed that Osun voters are prepared to vote out Governor Adeleke, Davido's uncle, citing alleged failures to fulfill campaign promises. He predicted a rejection of the current administration and an embrace of a new direction. The governor advised Davido to channel his energy into supporting Adeleke after his expected defeat and suggested preparing to employ his uncle as a dancer, implying he might lose his political job.

Rather than attempting to influence Governor Hope Uzodimma through emotional appeals, the singer should rather prepare to employ his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, as a dancer in his music band after the election.
