Osun Environment Commissioner Arrested Over Rally Violence Released on Bail

Osun State Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Moyowa Adejoorin, has been released on bail by the Osun State Police Command. His arrest stemmed from a shooting incident that occurred during a rally for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ilesa.

The rally turned violent on Saturday, resulting in injuries to four individuals, one of whom was a teenager identified as Tobi Ilesanmi. Police spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi confirmed that Adejoorin was apprehended at the scene after it was cordoned off. His vehicle was also stopped, and an Amotekun personnel, allegedly involved in the shooting, was taken into custody.

Immediately the incident was reported, our personnel moved to the scene and cordoned off the area before some exhibits were recovered, which included expended cartridges and Amotekun personnel caps. Also, Mr Adejoorin was arrested at the scene and taken to the command for questioning as part of the investigation process.

Ojelabi stated that police personnel responded immediately, secured the area, and recovered evidence including expended cartridges and Amotekun personnel caps. Adejoorin was brought to the command for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. A video circulating on social media on Sunday showed the commissioner departing the police command.

While Adejoorin's release on bail has been confirmed, Ojelabi could not provide an immediate update on the status of the Amotekun personnel arrested alongside the commissioner. The investigation into the shooting incident and the involvement of those arrested is continuing.
