Osun lawmaker dumps APC, emerges Wike-backed PDP senatorial candidate

Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, representing Osun Central Senatorial District, has officially rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking a significant shift in the political landscape of Osun State. Fadeyi, who had previously left the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in July 2025 alongside four other National Assembly members, announced his return to the PDP, now aligning with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

Fadeyi confirmed his new political allegiance in a telephone interview, stating, "I am back in the PDP led by the FCT Minister, His Excellency, Nyesom Wike." He further revealed that he has formally notified the Senate of his party change and has secured the PDP's ticket to contest for the Osun Central Senatorial District in the 2027 Senate election.

I write to formally tender my resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective immediately. This decision has not been taken lightly. I joined the APC as a progressive party in good faith to support Mr President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in his ancestral home, which falls within my senatorial district, Osun Central.

The lawmaker's departure from the APC stems from his dissatisfaction with the party's primary election process for the Osun Central senatorial seat. In a letter addressed to the Senate President, Fadeyi detailed his reasons for resignation, citing a breach of trust and a departure from agreed-upon principles. He had reportedly received assurances from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a sole ticket under the APC, based on an understanding that the selection process would be consensual and fair.

Regrettably, recent developments from the leadership of the APC in Osun State have created serious trust issues within the party and made my continued membership of the party untenable. It was expressly agreed that the process for selecting candidates would be conducted on the basis of consensus. However, no consensus process was genuinely conducted, nor were party primaries held in a transparent and acceptable manner.

Fadeyi expressed disappointment that the Osun APC leadership failed to uphold these principles. He stated that "no consensus process was genuinely conducted, nor were party primaries held in a transparent and acceptable manner." This, he argued, created "serious trust issues" and made his continued membership "untenable." He also noted his concern over other colleagues who defected with him receiving return tickets while he was denied his.

This departure from our collective understanding has eroded confidence and undermined trust within the party. Furthermore, the manner in which decisions were taken appeared to disregard the authority and leadership of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, whose commitment to due process, party cohesion and democratic values is well known.
