Osun NURTW crisis: ALGON cautions Adeleke over “illegal” interference

The Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) in Osun state has urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to cease what it terms "illegal interference" in the ongoing factional crisis within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). ALGON cautioned the governor against undermining the rule of law.

This intervention comes after Governor Adeleke banned NURTW activities in motor parks across the state shortly after local council chairmen appointed a caretaker committee for the transport unions. ALGON, through its representative Idowu, asserted that the establishment, control, and regulation of public motor parks are constitutionally mandated responsibilities of local government councils under the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Consequently, ALGON argues that the governor lacks the legal authority to suspend the activities of transport unions or assume control over the management of motor parks. The association described the governor's reported directive banning NURTW activities as unconstitutional, null, and void.
