Osun-Osogbo Festival symbolises Yoruba culture, says Adeleke

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has lauded the annual Osun-Osogbo Festival, calling it a potent symbol of Yoruba culture and an invaluable heritage that underscores the historic bond between the people of Osogbo and the sacred Osun River.

Adeleke extended his felicitations to the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Oyetunji, and all Osogbo indigenes, both at home and abroad, during the festival's celebration. He emphasized that the festival stands as one of Africa's premier traditional events, safeguarding centuries of history, spiritual practices, and cultural identity. The governor noted that key elements such as the procession led by the Arugba, the presence of the Ataoja, traditional rites at the Osun Sacred Grove, and various cultural displays represent vital aspects of Yoruba civilization passed down through generations.

In a statement released on Friday, Adeleke praised traditional leaders, cultural custodians, devotees, and residents of Osogbo for their dedication to sustaining the festival. "On behalf of the government and the good people of Osun State, I heartily felicitate with Kabiyesi, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Oyetunji, Larooye II, Ataoja of Osogbo, and the entire people of Osogbo on this year’s Osun-Osogbo Festival," Adeleke stated.

The governor further highlighted the festival's role in projecting Osun State's cultural heritage globally, drawing visitors, researchers, and tourists from various countries. He expressed hope that the blessings of Osun would continue to bring peace, prosperity, and progress to the state. Governor Adeleke reiterated his administration's commitment to preserving Osun's rich cultural heritage, protecting the Osun Sacred Grove, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and supporting initiatives that promote tourism, cultural diplomacy, and economic opportunities.
