Osun poll: ‘Adeleke is not Fubara,’ says Dele Momodu

Former Presidential aspirant Dele Momodu has cautioned against drawing parallels between Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and his Rivers State counterpart, Siminalayi Fubara. Momodu, now a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, issued this warning via his X handle on Tuesday.

The statement appears to be a reaction to online publications quoting the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. According to these reports, Wike claimed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) could have secured victory in the Osun State governorship election if President Bola Tinubu had "wanted to win the Osun State election at all costs."

Momodu directly addressed Wike's alleged sentiment, writing, "Osun people would have demystified you mercilessly. Adeleke is not Fubara!! My kobo advice, stop equating yourself to God." This suggests Momodu believes Adeleke's political standing and electoral success are distinct from Fubara's, and perhaps implies that Wike's influence is overestimated.

Governor Adeleke, who ran on the Accord Party ticket, secured a second term in office by defeating the APC candidate. Wike, a prominent figure in the G5 group of PDP governors who opposed the party's presidential candidate in 2023, has maintained his PDP membership while publicly supporting President Tinubu's administration in his capacity as FCT Minister. His comments on the Osun election highlight his continued political influence and strategic positioning.
