#OsunDecides2026: 85-year-old casts vote, demands good governance

At 85 years old, Pa Odejide Mosunmoye cast his vote in the Osun governorship election, articulating a clear demand for good governance that benefits all segments of society. Speaking after casting his ballot at Unit 3, Ward 9, AUD School, Atile, Ikire, Mosunmoye shared his motivation for participating in the electoral process.

"I came out in my old age to vote today for the candidate of my choice because I want to see better governance in Osun," he told the News Agency of Nigeria. Mosunmoye, who has been voting since the era of Obafemi Awolowo, acknowledged the inherent imperfections in governance but stressed the necessity of citizens actively choosing better leaders. "What will happen is in the hands of God, but we just have to play our own part," he added.

The election proceedings at Mosunmoye's polling unit, like others, saw elderly men and women receiving priority treatment to cast their votes. Voting began approximately at 8:40 a.m., with political party agents allowed to inspect the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and ballot papers before the process commenced.
