Our actress reveals what still delights and surprises her after 20 years on stage

Mirna Medaković Stepinac says acting may have been her path long before she consciously chose it. As a child, she performed in kindergarten and led school events, recalling that she has always been “loud and outspoken.”

The Croatian actress has spent more than 20 years winning audiences in theatre, television and film. In an interview with In Magazin, she said her love for the profession has not faded, even as her ambitions have changed over the years.

I have always been loud and outspoken, so nothing has really changed in that respect.

When she was younger, Medaković Stepinac imagined playing Antigone. She also dreamed of portraying a powerful female character such as Juliet, although she felt she was already too old for that role when she finished university. Now, after many years in the profession, she said she mainly hopes there are still roles available to her.

Everyone knows how difficult their job is, and then you know some things you would not want your child to go through.

Medaković Stepinac is the mother of twins, Zora and Kaja. She said she is unsure whether she would want them to follow her career because she knows how demanding the work can be. Still, she added that every job is difficult, and that the hardest job is one a person does not love. If her daughters truly want to act, she said, they should pursue it.

She also remains uncertain about whether she will retire from the stage. She says at least once a year that she will change careers, but then returns to acting because she knows how much she loves it. “I probably will say I would not do this until retirement, but perhaps I will work until retirement,” she said.
