“Our Country’s Plant Heritage Is Preserved Here”

Emine Erdoğan visited Türkiye’s National Botanical Garden, where heirloom vegetables and fruits grow alongside examples of soilless farming and a museum devoted to agricultural biodiversity.

She first toured the seedling production area and received information about the plant species grown there. She then visited the Our Heritage, Local Seed Garden, established in 2024 under a project carried out under her patronage.

The garden contains 24 types of vegetables and fruits grown from heirloom seeds. Erdoğan collected tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, Şamama melons, beans and corn in a basket, saying, “We completed today’s harvest.”

She also visited the Ornamental Plant Production Center and an igloo-shaped soilless farming greenhouse. There, she learned about the nutrient film technique used to grow lettuce, basil, arugula, parsley and strawberries.

Erdoğan later toured the Agricultural Biodiversity Museum, which showcases Anatolia’s rich agricultural diversity and has special museum status. She spoke with children in the museum library and took photographs with them. In a post about the visit, she thanked everyone working to protect “our country’s plant heritage.”
