Outdoor festival spirit to fill the country

Iceland is buzzing with a vibrant festival atmosphere this weekend, with numerous outdoor celebrations taking place across the country. Popular events include Bræðslan in Borgarfjörður eystri, Mærudagar in Húsavík, and Hjarta Hafnarfjarðar in Hafnarfjörður, drawing large crowds for music and community gatherings.

The Bræðslan festival, now in its 21st year, has achieved a remarkable feat by selling out every year since 2008. Festival director Áskell Heiðar Ásgeirsson noted that the event intentionally limits ticket sales to ensure an enjoyable experience for all attendees, with approximately a thousand people holding wristbands this year. The festival features concerts, including performances by Karlakórinn Heimir, Óskar Pétursson, and Guðrún Gunnarsdóttir, alongside off-venue shows.

We always have the same number of tickets for sale. We decided long ago that we don't want too many people in the house so that everyone can enjoy themselves.

Meanwhile, Húsavík is hosting the Mærudagar festival, which has grown significantly each year. The program includes free activities such as a foam slide, children's races, music performances by local students, a motorcycle show, and a gaming tournament. The festival culminates with a four-hour concert featuring local musicians, Aron Can, and Bríet, followed by a fireworks display. Festival organizer Guðrún Huld Gunnarsdóttir highlighted that the event's success is due to the collaborative efforts of Húsavík businesses.

Everything is free of charge. It all consists of the collective effort of the businesses in Húsavík that make this happen, holding such a town festival.
