Over 1,200 participants in NATO exercise Northern Viking in Iceland

Iceland is hosting "Northern Viking," a significant NATO defense exercise involving over 1,200 participants from 12 countries. The exercise, scheduled from August 21 to September 4, is placing a considerable demand on local accommodation.

Approximately 400 participants will be housed in facilities at Keflavik Airport's security area. The remaining 800 will require lodging in hotels across the Reykjanes Peninsula. Hotel Keflavik, a key accommodation provider, reports being fully booked during the exercise dates, utilizing all its available units to house the influx of personnel.

Davíð Logi Sigurðsson, head of the information department at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, confirmed the scale of the exercise to Morgunblaðið. The significant number of international military personnel underscores Iceland's role in NATO's defense readiness and highlights the logistical planning required for such large-scale multinational operations.
